Principal’s Message
To Our Mustang Families,
It's hard to believe that the first quarter is already behind us! Our students and staff have accomplished so much in a short amount of time. We began the year by sharing our goals for academic growth, including increasing our school performance from 70% to 76% by focusing on what matters most: every student making learning gains. At SCMS, we believe in progress over perfection, and our students have already begun setting meaningful goals through data chats in Math and ELA as they prepare for PM2 testing in December.
We are also excited to share that SCMS is once again eligible for the Exceeding Expectations Award, making us one of only eight middle schools in the state to earn this distinction. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families.
Positive school culture continues to be a priority. We set a goal of reducing discipline referrals this year, and I'm proud to report that referrals are already down significantly (40%) compared to last year. As we enter Quarter 2, our focus will be on maximizing learning by limiting off-task conversations and classroom disruptions so every student can succeed.
I would also like to recognize our golf, cross country, and soccer student-athletes for representing SCMS with pride, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout a weather-challenged season. We look forward to finishing strong and beginning another exciting volleyball season.
Finally, thank you to our incredible teachers and staff who truly embody our "Mustangs Make It Happen" spirit. Whether tutoring students, coaching teams, sponsoring activities, communicating with families, or planning engaging learning experiences, they consistently go above and beyond to support student success.
As we begin the second quarter, I encourage every student to be present, engaged, and ready to learn each day. Attendance matters, effort matters, and the work completed in every class period matters. Together, let's make Quarter 2 our strongest yet!
Mustangs Make It Happen!
