SCMS Media Center: September Update

September Library Clubs

Lunch clubs are starting this September! Students must see Ms. Ford to sign up for lunch clubs and receive passes. A lunch students will bring their lunch straight to the cafeteria. B lunch students will go to their lunch teacher, show their pass and then bring their lunch straight to the library. Students getting lunch in the cafeteria may use their pass to go straight into the lunch line and then return to the library.

Some clubs will also have optional library time in the mornings from 9am to 9:25am. Students must go to their 1st period for attendance and show their pass before coming to the media center.

Lindsey Currie Author Visit at SCMS on Sept 24

We are so excited to host best-selling author Lindsey Currie at SCMS on Wednesday, September 24. Lindsey is the author of several SSYRA books including Scritch Scratch, The Girl in White, and this years Mystery of Locked Rooms. Lindsey will be giving a presentation during 1st and 2nd period as well as answering student questions and signing books.

Our SCMS Book Club members will be attending this event but it is also open to all students. Students must sign up to attend the author visit. See Ms. Ford in the Media Center to sign up and receive a permission slip. Permission slips must be returned to Ms. Ford by Tuesday, Sept 23 to attend.

If students would like to purchase books by Lindsey Currie for the event, she is working with White Rose Books & More, a local bookstore with free delivery if shipped to the school. Purchasing a book is optional but 15% of all purchases will go towards supporting the SCMS Media Center in our own purchases for the library. Learn more by visiting the website below.

September Makers Challenge

Our first SCMS Makers Challenge start this month with a Bookmark Challenge. Sign up with Ms. Ford to attend the Makers Challenge Kickoff on Friday, Sep 19 during lunches. There will be a variety of options for bookmarks and students may submit more than one bookmark for judging.

Students can continue working on their bookmarks during their own free time and independent working lunches on Tuesday Sept 23, Thursday Sept 25th and Tuesday Sept 30th.

All bookmarks must be submitted by Wednesday, Oct 1st to be judged.

Media Center Class Visits & Closures

We have several classes scheduled to visit the Media Center this week!

The Media Center will be closed on the following days.

Sept 4, 9, 11 & 12 - Media Center is closed for testing and testing makeups
Sept 16 - Media Center is closed while Ms. Ford is off campus for training
Sept 17 - Media Center is closed 1st - 5th period for an SDOC meeting being hosted in the Media Center
Sept 26 - No School

In August, we handed out laptops to students in every grade! We also had several 6th grade classes visit for the SCMS Media Center Orientation, scavenger hunt and book checkout. We love having classes visit and here a just few pictures of students enjoying the media center.
