💌Principal's Message: Let's Finish the School Year Strong💌

Dear Mustang Families,

As we move into the last stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to share highlights from our recent grade-level assemblies and to outline a few important focus areas that will help us finish the year strong.

First and foremost, daily attendance matters now more than ever. Being present each day ensures that students receive the instruction and support they need for remediation, intervention, enrichment, and extension of learning. These experiences are critical as we prepare for upcoming End-of-Year (EOYs) assessments, state assessments and final classroom projects/lessons. Families are encouraged to regularly check the ParentSquare calendar for specific testing dates and important school events.

As we approach state assessments, we are excited to motivate and celebrate our students through this year’s “Kick It Up SCMS!” initiative. To encourage strong effort and a positive mindset, students will have opportunities to earn incentives such as dress-down days, a glow party with a DJ, pancake breakfasts, sundae socials, activity time and much more. As always, our focus is on Progress Over Perfection, and we want students to feel supported, confident, and proud of their growth. The details for this initiative were shared with students at our assemblies, and students have goals established for these end of the year assessments. More details will be shared with families soon.

One of our key academic focus areas this quarter is Mathematics. Families can support learning at home by ensuring students are actively working in Progress Learning, Khan Academy, or ALEKS. For specific guidance on which platform best supports your child, please reach out to their math teacher.
To further support our students, we are offering several math tutoring opportunities:
  • After-school Math Tutoring: Tuesdays and Thursdays (4:30 – 5:45pm)
  • High School Math Tutoring Options:
  • Algebra: Before school Monday–Thursday (8:30–9:00 AM), at all (3) lunches on Mondays and Fridays, and after school on Thursday (4:30-5:45pm)
  • Geometry: Tuesday and Thursday mornings (9:00–9:30 AM)

Principal's Message: Continued

We are incredibly proud of the positive progress shared during our grade-level assemblies. This year, we celebrated a 62% decrease in discipline referrals across the 2024–2025 school year, and discipline is down once again this school year another 70 referrals—a true reflection of our students’ growth and commitment to making positive choices. The work of our PBIS team, deans, teachers/staff and students in the area of behavior continues to create a positive learning environment for our students, and we were the proud recipient of the Gold Model PBIS school award this year. Though we are extremely proud of these accomplishments, we want to continue to improve in all areas, so during the assembly we specifically addressed the following discipline related areas, and would love for SCMS families to take time to discuss these items at home as well:
  • We must respect ourselves, peers and teachers/staff. There is zero tolerance for bullying.
  • Counselors/Deans provide safe spaces for peer conflict to be resolved without disruption to the campus and learning environment.
  • When visiting the restroom, students need to do so quickly and get back to class. Bathroom vandalism is not tolerated and leaves extra work behind for our hard-working custodial staff.
  • There is zero tolerance for disruption of the learning environment.
In addition to celebrating our growth and progress in discipline, we celebrated being the only Exceeding Expectations Award Schools in the district! We also celebrated other outstanding accomplishments across our school community, including:
  • Our performing arts students for their success at MPAs and Art students who had their art displayed in Orlando, County Fair and various other SDOC event
  • The Jazz Band, who proudly represented our school in New Orleans
  • Our Mathletes and Battle of the Books teams
  • National Junior Honor Societies volunteer work on campus & the community
  • Our student-athletes, whose hard work and dedication continue to inspire us
These successes reflect the collective efforts of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we make the most of every instructional day and finish the school year strong.

Our focus this year has been on excellence and a shared passion for getting better each day. Because of that commitment, we are well on our way to marking this school year as one defined by growth, achievement, and pride in all that we have accomplished together.

Let’s keep LEAD-ing Mustangs!

🐎Mustang Market Final Orders🐎

As we head into the last month of the 25-26 school year, the Mustang Market will be closing for orders. Remember, students are allowed to wear SCMS shirts and SCMS zip up hoodies on any school day as part of their uniform. Please see the deadlines below and get those orders in on MySchoolBucks!

📅Yearbook Delivery Update📅

Yearbooks should be shipped at the beginning of May. Students who already purchased a yearbook will be notified once we have them at the school and are ready to distribute them.

We will have a limited number of yearbooks available to purchase. This will be first come first serve and that information will be given over announcements once they are ready.

⚽Free Sports Physicals and Electrocardiograms (ECGs)⚽

Here you will find information about free sports physicals and electrocardiograms (ECGs).

This is especially important for our 8th graders who plan to play sports in high school. You need an ECG done once in high school to participate. You also need a physical every year. Get these done early. Many high schools in the county have summer sports programs. Your child cannot participate unless they have these done!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Coach Cranmer.

📢Action Needed-Nee-Doh Style Toys📢

We have recently seen a significant increase in students bringing toys to school, particularly Nee-Doh style squishy toys filled with slime. While these items may be fun, they have become a distraction during class time.

Additionally, we’ve had issues with students arguing over them, taking them from one another, and occasionally breaking them open, which creates a sticky mess on desks, chairs, walls, schoolwork, and even other students.

To help maintain a focused and clean learning environment, please ensure that these types of toys are kept at home, as they are not needed at school.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

ℹ️Important School Community Surveyℹ️

Calling all SCMS Families!

The Title I Annual Evaluation Survey is a yearly check-up of how well schools are partnering with families: how they communicate with parents, how many are participating, and whether the activities are actually helping families support their children's learning.

We would love if you took a little bit of time and completed the survey below! Any feedback you have is greatly appreciated.
